Daṇḍotpatti-kathana (Origin and Function of Daṇḍa) — वसुहोम–मान्धातृ संवाद
भर्तप्रत्यय उत्पन्नो व्यवहारस्तथापर: । तस्माद् यः स हितो दृष्टो भर्तप्रत्ययलक्षण:
bhartapratyaya utpanno vyavahāras tathāparaḥ | tasmād yaḥ sa hito dṛṣṭo bhartapratyayalakṣaṇaḥ ||
ভীষ্ম বললেন— প্রভু/কর্তৃপক্ষের প্রতি আস্থার ভিত্তিতেও এক প্রকার বিচার-ব্যবহার জন্মায়, যা বাদী-প্রতিবাদীর বিবাদ থেকে উদ্ভূত ব্যবহারের থেকে পৃথক। অতএব সেই আস্থার উপর নির্ভর করে যে সিদ্ধান্ত বা দণ্ড দেওয়া হয়, তাকে ‘ভর্তৃপ্রত্যয়লক্ষণ’ বলা হয়; এবং তা সমগ্র জগতের কল্যাণকর বলে মানা হয়।
