अर्थनाशो वधो>कीर्तिरियशश्ष पलायने । अमनोीज्ञासुखा वाच: पुरुषस्य पलायने
artha-nāśo vadho 'kīrtir iyaśaś ca palāyane | amanojñā-sukhā vācāḥ puruṣasya palāyane ||
সৈন্যদের এ কথাও বোঝানো উচিত যে রণক্ষেত্র থেকে পলায়নে বহু দোষ আছে— উদ্দেশ্য ও ধন নষ্ট হয়; পালাতে গিয়ে শত্রুর হাতে নিহত হওয়ার আশঙ্কা থাকে; পলায়নকারীর নিন্দা হয় এবং সর্বত্র অপযশ ছড়ায়। তদুপরি, যুদ্ধ থেকে মুখ ফিরালে মানুষকে লোকের মুখে বহু কঠোর, অপ্রিয় ও বেদনাদায়ক কথা শুনতে হয়।
