Adhyāya 48 — Duryodhana’s Account of Tribute and the Provisioned Court
ahaṃ ca saha sodaryaiḥ saumadattiś ca pārthivaḥ | etais tvaṃ sahitaḥ sarvair jaya kṛtsnāṃ vasundharām ||
The verse highlights how political ambition seeks legitimacy through alliances and celebrated names; ethically, it foreshadows how the pursuit of total conquest can override restraint and negotiated dharma, turning governance into domination.
Duryodhana is rallying support and encouraging a leader/ally by listing who stands with him—himself, his brothers, and Bhūriśravas—urging that, with this combined force, they should aim to subdue the whole world.
