अध्याय ९ — कर्णस्य प्रहारः, योधयुग्मनियोजनम्, शैनेय-कैकेययोर्युद्धविन्यासः
न्यायेन युध्यमानौ हि तद् वै सत्यं ब्रवीमि ते । मैंने यह समाचार भी सुना था कि भीष्म और द्रोणाचार्य मार गिराये गये, परंतु मैं तुमसे यह सच्ची बात कहता हूँ कि ये भीष्म और द्रोण यदि समरभूमिमें न्यायपूर्वक युद्ध करते होते तो इन्हें साक्षात् वज्रधारी इन्द्र भी नहीं मार सकते थे

আমি এ সংবাদও শুনেছি যে ভীষ্ম ও দ্রোণাচার্য নিহত হয়েছেন; কিন্তু আমি তোমাকে সত্য বলছি—যদি তাঁরা যুদ্ধক্ষেত্রে ন্যায় ও বিধি মেনে যুদ্ধ করতেন, তবে বজ্রধারী ইন্দ্র স্বয়ংও তাঁদের বধ করতে পারতেন না।
