स्त्रीमध्यमिव गाहन्ते दैवं तु बलवत्तरम् । संजय! इस प्रकार वर्तमान महान् युद्धोंमें जो मैं प्रतेदिन ही अपने कुछ पुत्रोंको मारा गया और कुछको पराजित हुआ सुनता आ रहा हूँ
strī-madhyam iva gāhante daivaṁ tu balavattaram |
সঞ্জয় বললেন—তারা যেন নারীদের মাঝখানে প্রবেশ করার মতোই ধেয়ে আসে; কিন্তু ভাগ্যই অধিক বলবান। এই মহাযুদ্ধে প্রতিদিন শুনছি—আমার কিছু পুত্র নিহত, আর কিছু পরাজিত; তাই আমার দৃঢ় বিশ্বাস হয়েছে, রণক্ষেত্রে এমন কোনো বীর নেই যে পাণ্ডবদের রোধ করতে পারে। মানুষ যেমন নারীদের মধ্যে নির্ভয়ে প্রবেশ করে, তেমনি পাণ্ডবরাও আমার সেনায় নিঃশঙ্কে ঢুকে পড়ে; এ বিষয়ে দैবই নিঃসন্দেহে সর্বাধিক প্রবল।
