भीष्म॑ च समुदीर्यन्तं दृष्टवा पार्था महाहवे । अवहारमकुर्वन्त सैन्यानां भरतर्षभ,भरतश्रेष्ठ! इधर, उस महान् युद्धमें भीष्मका वेग अधिकाधिक प्रचण्ड होता जा रहा था, यह देख कुन्तीके पुत्रोंने अपनी सेनाओंको युद्धक्षेत्रसे पीछे हटा लिया
bhīṣmaṁ ca samudīryantaṁ dṛṣṭvā pārthā mahāhave | avahāram akurvanta sainyānāṁ bharatarṣabha ||
সেই মহাযুদ্ধে ভীষ্মের বেগ ক্রমে বৃদ্ধি পেতে দেখে, হে ভরতশ্রেষ্ঠ, পৃথাপুত্রেরা তাদের সৈন্যদলকে রণক্ষেত্র থেকে পশ্চাদপসরণ করাল।
संजय उवाच

Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Bhīṣma’s assault is intensifying on the battlefield, and the Pāṇḍavas, recognizing the danger, pull their troops back—indicating a temporary retreat under pressure from Bhīṣma’s advance.
