True knowledge is approached through ethical and disciplined living: reverence for the teacher, purity, steadiness, self-restraint, humility, sincerity, non-violence, patience, and straightforwardness. The verse frames ‘knowledge’ as a way of being, not merely a set of ideas.
Within Bhishma Parva’s instruction-setting, the discourse turns from describing the field (kṣetra) and its transformations to listing the practical means that cultivate right knowledge—highlighting inner virtues even amid the battlefield context.
