उत्पातवर्णनम् (Utpāta-varṇanam) — Catalogue of Portents
सहस्रशो महाशब्द: शिखराणि पतन्ति च । जान पड़ता है, यह भूमि सहस्रों भूमिपालोंका रक्तपान करेगी। प्रभो! कैलास, मन्दराचल तथा हिमालयसे सहसों प्रकारके अत्यन्त भयानक शब्द प्रकट होते हैं और उनके शिखर भी टूट-टूटकर गिर रहे हैं
sahasraśo mahāśabdaḥ śikharāṇi patanti ca |
ব্যাস বললেন—চারিদিক থেকে সহস্র সহস্র ভয়ংকর, গর্জনময় শব্দ উঠছে, আর পর্বতশৃঙ্গ ভেঙে ভেঙে নিচে পড়ছে। এই অশুভ লক্ষণ জানায়—এই পৃথিবী অগণিত রাজাদের রক্ত পান করতে উদ্যত; ধর্ম যখন লোভ-আকাঙ্ক্ষায় আচ্ছন্ন হয়, তখন যুদ্ধের অধর্মময় মহাসংহার এমনই পূর্বাভাসে প্রকাশ পায়।
