उत्पातवर्णनम् (Utpāta-varṇanam) — Catalogue of Portents
प्रतिस्रोतो महानद्य: सरित: शोणितोदका: । फेनायमाना: कूपाश्च कूर्दन्ति वृषभा इव,बड़ी-बड़ी नदियोंके जल रक्तके समान लाल हो गये हैं और उनकी धारा उलटे स्रोतकी ओर बहने लगी है। कुँओंसे फेन ऊपरको उठ रहे हैं, मानो वृषभ उछल रहे हों
pratisroto mahānadyāḥ saritaḥ śoṇitodakāḥ | phenāyamānāḥ kūpāś ca kūrdanti vṛṣabhā iva ||
ব্যাস বললেন—মহানদী ও সরিতাগুলি স্বাভাবিক স্রোতের বিপরীতে প্রবাহিত হচ্ছে; তাদের জল রক্তের মতো লাল হয়ে গেছে। কূপগুলি ফেনা তুলে ওপরের দিকে উথলে উঠছে, যেন বলদ লাফিয়ে উঠছে—এ সবই ধর্মব্যবস্থার বিচ্যুতি ও আসন্ন যুদ্ধের রক্তাক্ত বিভীষিকার অশুভ লক্ষণ।
