व्यास उवाच
The verse highlights dharmic discipline: a rite should be undertaken with prior resolve, proper preparation, and under the guidance of a qualified guru. It also emphasizes fidelity to one’s earlier commitments and respect for the teacher’s authority.
Vyāsa addresses a revered ascetic-teacher, reminding him of an earlier consultation about a sacrifice. He states that he has collected the necessary materials and now seeks the guru’s presence to officiate the yajña, invoking their established patron-priest relationship.
