বৈশম্পায়ন বললেন—সেই সময় সেই শ্রেষ্ঠ ব্রাহ্মণ দুটি কুণ্ডল মৃগচর্মে বেঁধে রেখেছিলেন। তাঁর দৃষ্টি ছিল কেবল লতাগুলির দিকেই; কাটা লতাগুলি কোথায় পড়ছে, সে বিষয়ে তিনি সতর্ক ছিলেন না। ফলে তিনি যে লতাগুলি ছেদন করেছিলেন, তার প্রায় সবই সেই মৃগচর্মের উপরেই পড়ল, যাতে ওই দুটি কুণ্ডল বাঁধা ছিল।
