bhaya-moha-parīvāraṃ bhūta-sammohakārakam | ānanda-prīti-cāraṃ ca kāma-krodha-parigraham
Vāyu warns that certain inner impulses can masquerade as happiness and affection, but their hidden roots are fear, delusion, desire, and anger; ethical living therefore requires discernment and self-control rather than trusting pleasant appearances.
In this passage Vāyu-deva speaks as a moral instructor, characterizing a harmful force (a passion or temptation) by listing its symptoms and effects: it confuses beings, presents itself attractively, and is fundamentally driven by kāma and krodha.
