Brahma-vidyā: Satya–Tapas and the Enumeration of Tattvas
Arjuna–Vāsudeva framed dialogue
vāyudeva uvāca | atrāpy udāharantīmam itihāsaṁ purātanam | saṁvādaṁ mokṣasaṁyuktaṁ śiṣyasya guruṇā saha ||
The verse frames liberation (mokṣa) as a subject best approached through an authoritative, time-honored teacher–disciple dialogue, emphasizing reliance on transmitted wisdom (itihāsa/tradition) for ethical and spiritual clarity.
Vāyudeva introduces an ancient exemplum: a traditional account in which a disciple and a guru engage in a conversation specifically oriented toward mokṣa, setting up the teaching that follows.
