The verse highlights a dharmic model of kingship: rule well, ensure orderly succession by installing a capable heir, and then renounce worldly power at the proper stage of life by withdrawing to the forest (vānaprastha), showing detachment and responsibility.
Vaiśampāyana describes a great king of the Kekayas who, after placing his son in royal authority, leaves the kingdom and goes to the forest, indicating a transition from active rule to ascetic retirement.
