King Duḥṣanta’s Entry into the Forest Hunt
दिविष्ठस्य भुविष्ठस्त्वं सखाभूतो मम प्रिय: । रम्य: पृथिव्यां यो देशस्तमावस नराधिप
diviṣṭhasya bhuviṣṭhas tvaṁ sakhābhūto mama priyaḥ | ramyaḥ pṛthivyāṁ yo deśas tam āvasa narādhipa ||
বৈশম্পায়ন বললেন—যদিও আমি স্বর্গে বাস করি আর তুমি পৃথিবীতে, তবু আজ থেকে তুমি আমার প্রিয় সখা হলে। হে নরাধিপ! পৃথিবীর যে দেশ সর্বাধিক মনোরম ও সুন্দর, সেখানেই বাস করো।
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights dharmic friendship and goodwill that transcends status and realm: even if one is ‘in heaven’ and the other ‘on earth,’ sincere affection and alliance are affirmed, accompanied by a benevolent counsel to live in a fitting, prosperous place.
The narrator reports a speech in which a heavenly-dwelling figure addresses a king on earth, declaring him a beloved friend from that day onward and advising him to reside in the most pleasant and beautiful region available.
