A ruler must accept righteous counsel and restrain pride; ignoring the guidance of sages and persisting in arrogance becomes a cause of ruin, symbolized here by the curse that follows moral refusal.
The text signals an episode in which the sage Maitreya arrives, instructs King Dhṛtarāṣṭra, and then pronounces a curse upon King Duryodhana—marking a turning point that foreshadows the consequences of Duryodhana’s conduct.
