Varāha-avatāra: The Boar Incarnation Lifts the Earth and Slays Hiraṇyākṣa
ब्रह्माणं हर्षयामास हरिस्तांश्च द्विजोत्तमान् । स्वगर्जितेन ककुभ: प्रतिस्वनयता विभु: ॥ २४ ॥
brahmāṇaṁ harṣayām āsa haris tāṁś ca dvijottamān sva-garjitena kakubhaḥ pratisvanayatā vibhuḥ
Brahmā and other enlightened brāhmaṇas who know the Supreme Personality of Godhead are enlivened by the appearance of the Lord in any of His multi-incarnations. The appearance of the wonderful and gigantic incarnation of Viṣṇu as the mountainlike boar did not fill them with any kind of fear, although the Lord’s resounding voice was tumultuous and echoed horribly in all directions as an open threat to all demons who might challenge His omnipotency.
This verse says the Lord’s own roar made the directions echo and brought joy to Brahmā and the foremost brāhmaṇas, showing His overwhelming divine power and auspicious presence.
In the Varāha-līlā context, the Lord’s appearance and mighty sound reassure the cosmic administrators and sages that dharma and creation are protected by the Supreme.
When life feels unstable, this verse encourages faith that the Supreme can restore order; regular remembrance and hearing of the Lord’s līlā strengthens courage and steadiness in duty.
