This line functions as a colophon marking the close of a chapter within a pilgrimage narrative. Its ethical emphasis is indirect: it situates the reader in the tradition of tīrthayātrā, where purification, restraint, and reverence for sacred places are treated as supports for dharma.
The verse is not a spoken dialogue but an editorial/narrative closing formula: it announces that the eighty-seventh chapter has concluded within the Vana Parva’s Tīrthayātrā section, specifically in the portion describing Dhaumya’s pilgrimage.
