तस्मै प्रयाचमानाय न देये कुण्डले त्वया । अनुनेय: परं शक््त्या श्रेय एतद्धि ते परम्,“उनके माँगनेपर तुम उन्हें अपने दोनों कुण्डल दे न देना। यथाशक्ति अनुनय-विनय करके उन्हें समझा देना; इससे तुम्हारा परम मंगल होगा

বৈশম্পায়নে ক’লে—সেয়া যাচিবলৈ আহিলেও তুমি তোমাৰ দুটা কুণ্ডল তাক নিদিবা। যিমান পাৰা বিনয়-অনুনয়েৰে তাক নিবৃত্ত কৰিবলৈ চেষ্টা কৰা; এই পথেই তোমাৰ পৰম মঙ্গল।
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Not every request should be met with immediate generosity; when a gift would cause grave harm, one should refuse and instead use respectful persuasion to prevent wrongdoing, since true welfare (śreyas) lies in discerning action.
A warning is given about an impending request for the hero’s earrings: if someone comes as a supplicant, he is instructed not to hand them over, but to try—within his capacity—to dissuade the requester through courteous reasoning, because that refusal is said to secure his highest good.
