पुरा मातुः पितुर्वापि यदि पश्यामि विप्रियम् । न जीविष्ये वरारोहे सत्येनात्मानमालभे,वरारोहे! मैं सत्यकी शपथ खाकर अपना शरीर छूकर कहता हूँ, यदि मैं माता अथवा पिताका अप्रिय देखूँगा तो जीवित नहीं रहूँगा
purā mātuḥ pitur vāpi yadi paśyāmi vipriyam | na jīviṣye varārohe satyenātmānam ālabhe ||
মাৰ্কণ্ডেয় ক’লে—“হে সুশ্ৰোণি! পূৰ্বতে মই সত্যৰ শপথ লৈ, নিজৰ দেহক সাক্ষী কৰি কৈছিলোঁ—‘মাতৃ বা পিতৃৰ অপ্রিয় কিবা যদি কেতিয়াবা দেখোঁ, তেন্তে মই জীৱিত নাথাকিম।’”
मार्कण्डेय उवाच

Markandeya recounts a past resolve, addressing a woman as varārohe, and states that he once swore—touching his body as a solemn attestation—that he would not go on living if he were to witness anything harmful or displeasing to his mother or father.
