मार्कण्डेय उवाच
The verse highlights steadfastness and endurance in the face of violent conflict—qualities expected in kṣatriya-dharma—while also underscoring the grave, destructive nature of war (sudāruṇa), inviting ethical reflection on the cost of such engagements.
Mārkaṇḍeya narrates that a fierce, sustained close combat continued for a muhūrta between the warriors Vajravega and Pramāthin and the mighty-armed Saumitri (Lakṣmaṇa).
