Dyumatsena’s Restoration and Sāvitrī’s Disclosure of Yama’s Boons
tasyā rudatyā bhāvinyā dīrghā veṇī susaṃyatā
The verse highlights inner turmoil and impending fate: even amid grief and ominous anticipation, outward restraint (the tightly bound braid) mirrors the ethical ideal of self-control under suffering.
Mārkaṇḍeya describes a woman in distress, weeping with a sense of what is about to occur; the detail of her long, firmly bound braid serves as a vivid, characterizing image within the unfolding story.
