मार्कण्डेय उवाच
The verse praises disciplined virtue: a person’s true attainment is shown not only in tapas (austerity) and jñāna (knowledge) but also in medhā (sound discernment) expressed through steady, timely reverence toward elders/teachers. Ethical excellence is measured by consistent conduct, not occasional display.
Mārkaṇḍeya addresses a ‘son’ figure, commending him as a satputra (good son) who has regularly honored him at proper times. The speaker blesses and affirms the listener’s spiritual and moral progress—goal, austerity, knowledge, and superior intellect.
