A ruler’s promise—especially a publicly offered boon—carries moral force. The verse highlights the dharmic expectation that honorific speech and pledged generosity should be sincere and fulfilled, reflecting the ethical responsibility attached to power and status.
In the court/assembly setting, Dhṛtarāṣṭra addresses Pāñcālī (Draupadī) respectfully and invites her to choose a boon, declaring her worthy of receiving what she asks. Vaiśampāyana narrates this as part of the unfolding courtly and political events in Udyoga Parva.
