Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the ethical contrast between relying on sheer numbers and worldly alliances versus the moral force embodied in a single principled warrior. It also exposes how pride and insecurity can distort judgment, making one equate strength with righteousness.

In Udyoga Parva’s pre-war deliberations, Duryodhana speaks about the military situation, emphasizing that many kings’ armies are gathered, yet they are effectively set against Arjuna alone—an admission of Arjuna’s formidable reputation and a rhetorical attempt to rally confidence through numbers.
