Adhyaya 32: Saṃjaya’s Return, Audience with Dhṛtarāṣṭra, and Ethical Admonition
akāmān kāmayati yaḥ kāmayānān parityajet | balavantaṃ ca yo dveṣṭi tam āhur mūḍhacetasam ||
Value genuine well-wishers and do not chase the indifferent; avoid needless hatred, especially toward those stronger than you. Sound judgment in relationships and conflict is a mark of wisdom; reversing it is folly.
In Udyoga Parva, Vidura offers moral and political counsel during the tense pre-war negotiations. Here he characterizes self-destructive behavior—misplaced attachment, rejection of true supporters, and reckless enmity—as the mindset of a fool.
