The verse highlights a dharmic tension resolved through conduct: Bhishma maintains reverence toward his guru (by salutation) while also standing firm in his kshatriya obligation to face a challenge without fear. Respect and resolve are shown as compatible when each is expressed in its proper sphere.
Bhishma narrates that he first offers formal obeisance to Parashurama, his revered teacher, then mounts his chariot and positions himself directly before Parashurama, ready for combat and unafraid—signaling the commencement of their confrontation.
