Yudhiṣṭhira frames victory and defeat as ultimately grounded in a higher determining principle—so one should act with dharma and humility, recognizing that outcomes (life, kingdom, gain/loss, joy/sorrow) are not fully under personal control.
In the tense pre-war deliberations of the Udyoga Parva, Yudhiṣṭhira reflects on the decisive factor behind the coming conflict’s outcome, emphasizing that the fate of the Pāṇḍavas—life, sovereignty, and emotional fortunes—rests upon that paramount figure/power.
