Udyoga Parva 142: Vidura’s warning to Kuntī and Kuntī’s resolve to meet Karṇa

Gaṅgātīra encounter begins

sarveṣāṃ tāta bhūtānāṃ vināśe pratyupasthite | anayo nyāyasaṅkāśo hṛdayān nāpasarpati, tāta ||

Educational Q&A

As catastrophe approaches, people often lose clear moral discernment: adharma can masquerade as dharma and become emotionally entrenched. The verse warns that ethical judgment must be guarded especially in crisis, when self-justifying narratives make wrongdoing feel righteous.

Śrī Kṛṣṇa is giving counsel in the Udyoga Parva context of impending war, diagnosing the psychological and ethical blindness that arises when collective ruin is near—an atmosphere in which unjust policies and actions are defended as if they were just.
