Wise counsel, especially from a well-wisher, should be honored; rejecting it out of anger leads one toward undisciplined influences and ethically harmful decisions. The verse contrasts 'arthavat' (beneficial, reasoned speech) with 'saṃrambha' (impetuous anger) and 'akṛtātman' (lack of self-mastery).
After hearing his mother’s prudent advice, Duryodhana ignores it. Agitated and determined, he leaves and goes back to his ministers—portrayed here as lacking self-control—signaling his continued movement toward conflict rather than reconciliation.
