Śānti-parva Adhyāya 30: Nārada–Parvata Samaya-bhaṅga, Śāpa, and the Marriage of Sukumārī
sa tad vākyaṃ tu vijñāya nāradaḥ parvataṃ tathā | yukto 'pi nityadharmajña na vai svargam avāpsyasi ||
The verse highlights that ethical consequence (karma) can override mere external religiosity: even disciplined practice and habitual dharma do not guarantee heavenly reward if one commits a serious fault that brings about a righteous curse.
After grasping what was said, the sage Nārada becomes angry and curses his nephew Parvata, declaring that despite Parvata’s disciplined, dharma-oriented life, he will not attain Svarga.
