Śānti-parva Adhyāya 3: Karṇa’s training under Rāma Jāmadagnya and the Bhārgava restriction on the Brahmāstra
pitā gurau na saṁdeho vedavidyāpradaḥ prabhuḥ | ato bhārgava ity uktaṁ mayā gotraṁ tavāntike ||
A teacher who imparts the Veda and knowledge is ethically regarded as equal to one’s father; gratitude and reverence toward such a guru are part of dharma.
Narada explains why he identified himself with the Bhārgava lineage: because the guru who grants Vedic learning is like a father, and lineage-identification is framed through that relationship in the given context.
