Śānti-parva Adhyāya 3: Karṇa’s training under Rāma Jāmadagnya and the Bhārgava restriction on the Brahmāstra
abravīd dhi sa māṁ kruddhas tava pūrva-pitāmahaḥ | mūtra-śleṣmāśanaḥ pāpa nirayaṁ pratipatsyase ||
The verse highlights karmic retribution expressed through a curse: moral failure is portrayed as leading to a degraded state of existence and suffering (niraya), underscoring the ethical weight of conduct and the consequences of being deemed pāpa (sinful).
Nārada recounts a past incident in which the listener’s forefather, angered, pronounces a curse upon Nārada, declaring that he will fall into hell and take on a loathsome form—a worm that feeds on impure substances.
