जनक उवाच ब्रह्मणैकेन जातानां नानात्वं गोत्रत: कथम् | बहूनीह हि लोके वै गोत्राणि मुनिसत्तम,जनकने पूछा--मुनिश्रेष्ठ!ी जब सबको एकमात्र ब्रह्माजीने ही जन्म दिया है, तब मनुष्योंके भिन्न-भिन्न गोत्र कैसे हुए? इस जगत्में मनुष्योंके बहुत-से गोत्र सुने जाते हैं
janaka uvāca
brahmaṇaikena jātānāṁ nānātvam gotrataḥ katham |
bahūnīha hi loke vai gotrāṇi munisattama ||
জনকে ক’লে—হে মুনিশ্ৰেষ্ঠ! যেতিয়া সকলোৰে জন্ম একমাত্ৰ ব্ৰহ্মাৰ পৰা, তেতিয়া গোত্ৰৰ দিশত এই বৈচিত্ৰ্য কেনেকৈ হ’ল? কিয়নো এই জগতত বহু গোত্ৰৰ কথা শুনা যায়।
