Śoka-śamana: Kṛṣṇa’s Consolation and Nārada’s Exempla to Sṛñjaya
Chapter 29
स चेन्ममार सूंजय चतुर्भद्रतरस्त्वया । पुत्रात् पुण्यतरश्वैव मा पुत्रमनुतप्यथा:
sa cen mamāra suñjaya caturbhadrataras tvayā | putrāt puṇyataras caiva mā putram anutapyathāḥ ||
বায়ুৱে ক’লে—“হে সুঞ্জয়! যিসকল তোমাতকৈ চাৰিওটা মঙ্গলগুণত অধিক শ্ৰেষ্ঠ আছিল আৰু তোমাৰ পুত্ৰতকৈও অধিক পুণ্যবান আছিল, তেওঁলোকো মৃত্যুবৰণ কৰিলে। তেন্তে তোমাৰ পুত্ৰৰ মৃত্যু-বিৰোধে কি বিশেষ দাবী থাকিব? সেয়ে পুত্ৰৰ বাবে শোক নকৰিবা।”
वायुदेव उवाच
Death is universal and does not spare even those who are more virtuous or more excellently endowed; therefore excessive grief is to be restrained, and one should cultivate steadiness and acceptance in accordance with dharma.
Vāyudeva addresses Suñjaya, reasoning with him to lessen his sorrow: if even superior and highly meritorious persons have died, Suñjaya should not be overwhelmed by grief for his own son.
