Educational Q&A

The verse emphasizes the ethical and auspicious value of listening to exemplary histories of earlier kings: such narratives are not merely entertaining but are held to confer well-being—calming adverse influences and strengthening life and vitality—by orienting the listener toward dharma and right conduct.

Vāyudeva is introducing or commending a forthcoming account about former rulers, describing it as delightful and worthy of hearing, and stating its traditional fruits (phala-śruti): pacification of malefic planetary effects and increase of lifespan.
