Educational Q&A

Yoga requires removing five root obstacles—desire, anger, greed, fear, and sleep/torpor—then practicing disciplined restraint, especially of speech, while cultivating yogic disciplines.

In Shanti Parva, Bhishma instructs Yudhishthira on dharma and inner discipline; here he gives a practical ethical-psychological teaching on what must be uprooted to make yoga effective.
