व्यभिचारे तु कम्मिंश्षिद् व्यतिक्रम्पापरान् सुतान् । पित्रोक्त: कुपितेनाथ जहीमां जननीमिति
vyabhicāre tu kammiṁścid vyatikramapāparān sutān | pitroktaḥ kupitenātha jahīmāṁ jananīm iti ||
ভীষ্মে ক’লে—“এবাৰ ব্যভিচাৰৰ ঘটনা ঘটাত গৌতম ক্ৰোধে দগ্ধ হ’ল। অন্য পুত্ৰসকলক নক’লে তেওঁ চিৰকাৰীক ক’লে—‘বৎস! এই পাপিনী জননীক বধ কৰ।’”
भीष्म उवाच
The verse frames a moral crisis where anger and perceived transgression lead to a harsh command within the family, setting up reflection on dharma: how judgment should be tempered, how punishment relates to wrongdoing, and the danger of acting under rage.
Bhishma recounts an episode: Gautama, believing his wife guilty of adultery, becomes furious and instructs his son Cirakari—rather than the other sons—to kill the mother, initiating a dilemma about obedience, justice, and restraint.
