Educational Q&A

The verse upholds atithi-dharma: a householder should receive a guest with soothing speech, respectful welcome, and the customary offerings (arghya, pādya) performed according to proper rule.

Bhīṣma narrates how he received an honored visitor: he reassured him with kind words, welcomed him, and formally offered arghya and pādya as part of the prescribed ritual of guest-reception.
