Adhyāya 262: Śabda-brahman, Para-brahman, and the Ethics of Tyāga

Kapila–Syūmaraśmi Saṃvāda

ते तु तद्‌ ब्रह्मण: स्थान प्राप्तुवन्तीह सात्त्विका: | नैव ते स्वर्गमिच्छन्ति न यजन्ति यशोधनै:

te tu tad brahmaṇaḥ sthānaṁ prāptuvantīha sāttvikāḥ | naiva te svargam icchanti na yajanti yaśodhanaiḥ | na caitān ṛtvijo lubdhā yājayanti phalārthinaḥ ||

কিন্তু যিসকল সাত্ত্বিক, তেওঁলোকে ইয়াতেই ব্ৰহ্মৰ সেই ধাম লাভ কৰে। তেওঁলোক স্বৰ্গ কামনা নকৰে; যশ আৰু ধনৰ বাবে যজ্ঞ নকৰে। আৰু ফললালসাৰে লুব্ধ ঋত্বিজসকলে এনে লোকৰ যজ্ঞত অধিষ্ঠান নকৰে।

Educational Q&A

True sāttvika dharma is not motivated by heavenly reward, fame, or wealth. Such purity of intention leads toward Brahman’s abode, and it stands apart from profit-driven ritualism and reward-seeking priestcraft.

Cūlādhāra is describing the conduct and destiny of sāttvika people: they aim at Brahman rather than Svarga, avoid sacrifices done for social prestige or money, and therefore are not the clientele of greedy, reward-seeking priests.
