भीष्मजी कहते हैं--राजन्! वे गीध और गीदड़ दोनों ही भूखे थे और अपने उद्देश्यकी सिद्धिके लिये मृतकके बन्धु-बान्धवोंसे बातें करते थे। गीध कहता था कि सूर्य अस्त हो गये और सियार कहता था नहीं ।।
svakāryabaddhakakṣau tau rājan gṛdhro 'tha jambukaḥ | kṣutpipāsāpariśrāntau śāstram ālambya jalpataḥ ||
ভীষ্ম ক’লে—হে ৰাজন! শকুন আৰু শিয়াল দুয়ো নিজৰ নিজৰ উদ্দেশ্য সিদ্ধ কৰিবলৈ কটিবদ্ধ আছিল। ক্ষুধা-পিপাসাত ক্লান্ত হৈ তেওঁলোকে শাস্ত্ৰৰ আশ্ৰয় লৈ তৰ্ক কৰিছিল—এজনে ক’লে ‘সূৰ্য অস্ত গ’ল’, আনজনে ক’লে ‘নাই’।
