Vyāghra–Gomāyu Saṃvāda (व्याघ्रगोमायु संवाद) — Testing Character Beneath Appearances
(पर्णाहार: कदाचिच्च नियमव्रतवानपि । कदाचिदुदकेनापि वर्तयन्ननुयन्त्रित: ।।
Bhīṣma uvāca — parṇāhāraḥ kadācic ca niyamavratavān api | kadācid udakena api vartayann anuyantritaḥ || śmaśāne tasya cāvāso gomāyoḥ sammato 'bhavat | janmabhūmy-anurodhāc ca nānyāvāsam arocayat ||
ভীষ্মে ক’লে—ব্ৰত-নিয়মত নিবদ্ধ হৈ সি কেতিয়াবা পাত খাই থাকিছিল, কেতিয়াবা কেৱল পানী পিয়েই দিন কটায়; সংযমে তাৰ জীৱন বাঁধ খাইছিল। শ্মশানভূমিতেই সেই শিয়ালৰ বাস স্থিৰ হ’ল; জন্মভূমিৰ অনুৰাগে সেই ঠাইয়েই তাৰ প্ৰিয়, আন ক’তাও থাকিবলৈ তাৰ ৰুচি নাছিল।
