Nārada’s Prelude to Describing the Divine Assemblies

Educational Q&A

The verse frames divine courts as spaces sustained by dharma: self-controlled sages, gods and ancestors honor order through ongoing Vedic sacrifice and generous dakṣiṇā. Ethical emphasis falls on discipline (mind-mastery), rightful giving, and ritual responsibility as supports of cosmic and social harmony.

Nārada offers to narrate the splendor and nature of the celestial assemblies—those associated with Yama, Varuṇa, Indra, Kubera, and Brahmā—describing them as free from distress, richly endowed, and continually attended by divine beings, ancestors, sages, and sacrificers engaged in Vedic rites.
