Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how extraordinary prowess in war evokes collective awe and acclamation; it also reflects the Mahābhārata’s sober view that even amid violence, human communities respond to perceived excellence with ritualized sound—music, shouts, and ‘lion-roars’—marking fame and morale.

Sañjaya reports that, after a remarkable event in the battle, countless (even ‘divine’) instruments resound and the onlookers/soldiers roar like lions in celebration, signaling that something astonishing has just been witnessed in the combat.
