अश्वत्थामा कुरूणां च ये प्रवीरा महारथा:,अश्वत्थामा, कौरवपक्षके प्रमुख महारथी वीर, शौर्यसम्पन्न म्लेच्छ सैनिकोंसे युक्त नित्य मतवाले हाथी वर्षा करनेवाले मेघोंके समान मदकी धारा बहाते हुए उस रथसेनाके पीछे- पीछे चल रहे थे
sañjaya uvāca | aśvatthāmā kurūṇāṃ ca ye pravīrā mahārathāḥ, aśvatthāmā kauravapakṣake pramukha-mahārathī vīraḥ śaurya-sampanna-mleccha-sainikaiḥ yuktaḥ nitya-matavāla-gajān varṣā-kāle meghān iva mada-dhārāṃ sravantān tāṃ ratha-senāṃ paścāt paścāt anvayāt |
সঞ্জয়ে ক’লে—অশ্বত্থামা আৰু কুরুসকলৰ অগ্ৰগণ্য বীৰ মহাৰথীসকলে সেই ৰথসেনাৰ পিছফালে পিছফালে আগবাঢ়িল। কৌৰৱপক্ষৰ প্ৰধান মহাৰথী ৰূপে তেওঁ শৌৰ্যসম্পন্ন ম্লেচ্ছ সৈন্য আৰু সদা মত্ত হাতীৰ সৈতে চলিছিল; সিহঁতৰ মদধাৰা বৰ্ষাৰ মেঘৰ দৰে বোৱাইছিল।
