As a colophon, the verse does not teach through direct instruction; it frames the ethical and strategic tension of the episode—how warriors pursue their vowed aims within dharma while confronting revered elders like Droṇa, and how the war’s narrative is organized to highlight the moral weight of such confrontations.
This is the chapter-ending colophon spoken by Sañjaya, marking the completion of the ninety-first chapter within Droṇa Parva, under the Jayadratha-slaying section, specifically labeled as dealing with ‘Droṇa’s being overcome/outmaneuvered’ (droṇātikrama).
