अर्जुनस्य प्रतिघातः — श्रुताय्वच्युतायुवधः तथा गजसैन्यविदारणम्

त॑ सर्वदमनेत्याहुरद्धिजास्तेनास्य कर्मणा । त॑ प्रत्यषेधज्जननी मा सत्त्वानि विजीजहि,उनके इस कर्मसे ब्राह्मणोंने उनका नाम सर्वदमन रख दिया। माता शकुन्तलाने भरतको मना किया कि तू जंगली जीवोंको सताया न कर

taṁ sarvadamanety āhur addhijāstena asya karmaṇā | taṁ praty-aṣedhaj jananī mā sattvāni vijījahi ||

নাৰদে ক’লে—সেই কৰ্মৰ বাবে ব্ৰাহ্মণসকলে তাৰ নাম ‘সৰ্বদমন’ ৰাখিলে। কিন্তু জননীয়ে তাক বাধা দি ক’লে—“বনৰ সত্ত্ববোৰক কষ্ট নিদিবা।”
