Why Karṇa’s Śakti Was Not Used on Arjuna

tato hāhākṛte sainye dṛṣṭvā bhīmaṁ nṛpā ūcuḥ | rudro ’yaṁ bhīmarūpeṇa dhārtarāṣṭreṣu yudhyati ||

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how extraordinary valor aligned with a perceived righteous cause can appear ‘divine’ to onlookers: Bhīma’s overwhelming force is interpreted as Rudra’s presence. Ethically, it shows the moral-psychological dimension of war—fear and awe arise when power seems sanctioned by a higher order.

As Bhīma advances and fights the Dhārtarāṣṭras, the Kaurava host breaks into an uproar. Kings witnessing him declare that Rudra himself, in Bhīma’s terrifying form, is battling the sons of Dhṛtarāṣṭra.
