As a chapter-colophon, the line does not teach through direct instruction; it situates the reader ethically by reminding that individual duels (Karṇa–Sātyaki) occur within a larger vow-driven campaign culminating in Jayadratha’s death—highlighting how personal valor in war is inseparable from the broader consequences of duty, loyalty, and retaliation.
This is the closing formula marking the end of a chapter in Droṇa Parva, within the Jayadratha-slaying section, identifying the chapter’s subject as the combat between Karṇa and Sātyaki and numbering it as the 147th chapter.
