The verse highlights dependence on a protector’s strength and the role of fate/fortune (diṣṭi) in human hopes during crisis. It also reflects how war narratives often compress collective survival into the life and prowess of a single champion.
Sañjaya reports that Arjuna (Phālguna), famed for destroying enemy forces, is still alive. This news functions as reassurance and a boost to confidence, implying that the side speaking feels its continued survival is tied to Arjuna’s martial power.
